Written by former primary school teacher, Talie Ashbee, the book introduces three children: Isabelle, Rose and Seth to the fairies of Brandon Hill. Talie says:
“In 2014 I moved to Bristol and was keen to find out as much as I could about local history. I grew up on a Cornish farm and I must admit that moving to the big city was a little daunting. I needn’t have worried; the peopleof Bristol were very welcoming, and I immediately fell in love with everything about it. I was particularly fascinated by the hidden secrets you find around every corner. You just have to remember to look”
Talie, who previously worked as a Horticultural Producer for BBC garden programmes such as Your Garden Made Perfect, Chelsea Flower Show and Gardeners’ World, wrote the book during lockdown.
“As a family we always enjoyed visiting Brandon Hill, and on those visits I was struck by how magical the place is. I’d always thought it would be a perfect location for a fairy HQ. I spent many hours in Bristol Central Library researching the story and when lockdown kicked in, I put pen to paper. Bristol has a fascinating history and I wanted to get children excited about it”
Talie and her family now live in West Cornwall, where the Cornish piskies live...
